Bloomsburg Softball Opens Season in South Carolina
FLORENCE, SC--The Bloomsburg University softball team opened its season at the Francis Marion Tournament in South Carolina with a win and two losses. The Huskies beat West Georgia 6-2 and lost to Presbyterian 5-3 and USC Upstate, 3-0.
In the win over West Georgia, Ashley Lynn (Riverside/Danville) went the distance pitching allowing seven hits and striking out four. Kayleen Sidisky (Bellefonte/Bellefonte) led the offense going 2-4 with a solo homer, while Tara Reed (Williamsport/Williamsport) was 2-4 with two doubles and two runs batted in. Tiff Corliss (Lewisburg/Mifflinburg) also had an RBI double for the Huskies.
Against Presbyterian College, Alyssa English (Wallacetown/Philipsburg-Osceola) went 3-4 with a doubles, while Lynn was 1-2 with a two RBI. The Huskies led in the game 1-0 when Presbyterian scored four times in the sixth to take the lead. After Presbyterian added another run in the seventh to lead 5-1, the Huskies came back with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning and had the tying run at the plate, but flied out to end the game. Reed suffered the loss in the game for the Huskies.
In the game with USC Upstate, the Huskies managed just three hits in the loss. Bloomsburg did have two runners on with one out in the fourth, but grounded out on consecutive plays to end the scoring threat. Sheelin Fisher (Coplay/Allentown Central Catholic) took the loss pitching for the Huskies.
Bloomsburg (1-2) will face Columbus State and Queens University of North Carolina on Sunday at 9 and 11 a.m. respectively.
